"It's Alive"

As the month of February wraps up and the media has overdosed us all on sappy couples love stories and where they first met, like we really wanted to know... I have in store for us one more love story, but this time it's not between 2 humans, but between a young boy and his dog. This week I'm going to keep us in that mindset of bringing to life the impossible with the Frankenstein theme once again for this week's flick! Now I ask you what do thunderstorms, a cat that can prophesize the future with its poo, and a weenie dog have in common? Why its this week's "Monster Flick" of course!

"Frankenweenie"

This flick isn't so much scary, but I promise you that you'll be thoroughly entertained regardless if you're a little kid or a big kid as Tim Burton animations never disappoint. I was inspired to chose this flick due to a loss this past week of my parrot "Reet" and I could closely relate to the main character Victor Frankenstein and wishing I could still see my beloved Reet flying around my home in her almost normal self. After seeing this movie it definitely puts you back into "real life perspective" that all things are better laying to rest in peace than trying co-create a new warped form of life of your animal friends! Anyways back to the flick...Tim Burton brings you some amazing characterization in his animation on this film and doesn't add a hint of color throughout and yet the film itself is one of the most colorful I've seen in a while! Also I applaud the return of seeing Winona Ryder as the voice over for the character Elsa Van Helsing and hope to see her in more future Burton films. While not giving away the story, I will give you one of my favorite parts that tickled me was watching animation being entertained on the couch by watching real people acting in an old horror movie...brilliant!

This week I was in the mood for comfort food and thought what a no brainer that to use our movie title as our dish theme as well...so this week we'll be serving up our own "Frankenweenies"!

Here are some ingredients I'm suggesting you can use...

Yes that is my weenie "Oscar" caught in this picture!

-I used turkey dogs, but if your adventurous and don't mind where your meat comes from go for the real frankfurters!
-buns
-pickled pepper relish
-bacon cheddar spread
-mustard
things I left off, but feel free to add...
-chili
-ketchup
-cheese whiz
-anchovies
-and if your going for that everything and the kitchen sink thing why not add some peanut butter!
(Then you'll really be making a statement that it's alive while eating your creation!)

Here is what my creation just so happened to look like!

remember...sweet dreams!-Kat

The aftermath of Valentine's Day!

Ah Valentine's Day, a day that Hallmark invented to make you feel crummy if you don't have a special somebody to go out with for a fancy dinner out on the town. The whole idea of Valentine's Day really gets you to start thinking about your relationship status along with the all the ups and downs of the world that dating can bring. If you need a  new perspective on this dating thing and don't have access to hit the town with that perfect cloned mute model that always agrees with you ...which BTW that may technically qualify you as creepy, but to each is own... than you'll like this weeks flick!

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Why find a date when you can create one?

This flick is an underrated film from 1994 that features a young Robert De Niro as "the Creature" and an even younger Helena Bonham Carter as "Elizabeth".  I'm not going to give away any of the details as I'm sure you've probably already heard the story by now. This film will liven your spirits to inspire you to not only believe those internet dating sites that claim that there is a perfect match for you that isn't a psycho serial killer, but may also creepily inspire to create the perfect match for you if you get tired of all of the waiting around.

I've also added a little something to go along with the movie

Now when you're sitting on the couch eating those strange chocolates that come in heart shaped boxes that nobody can figure out what in the hell they are until you take a bite out of each of them. I then encourage you to try a "Scientist Swizzle" to wash down all that concrete paste used as filling inside those chocolates and to go buy yourself something else sweet and satisfying to complement your beverage!

Scientist Swizzle- a bubbly concoction with exact measurements that will help entice you to tap into your inner mad scientist self

Ingredients:

1- bottle of your favorite champagne
1-bottle of pomegranate juice (I used Pom)
1- bottle of pear juice (I used R. W. Knudsen)
pomegranate seeds for garnish

First fill your champagne flukes 3 quarters of the way full with champagne. Then pour the pear juice in the fluke until it is just shy of filling the last quarter of the way full. Next add a quick splash of the pomegranate juice over the top just to add color so you don't make it too bitter. Just in case you were wondering I was joking about that the exact measuring part, and if you are anything like me and you like your cocktails the same way you like your men "dry and bitter" then you'll want to use more pomegranate and less pear juice, but if you have a sweet tooth like a 5 year old then you'll want more pear and less pomegranate. BTW this drink will make a great mocktail as well without the champagne if aren't much of a boozer. Lastly add a couple of those seeds in the glass and enjoy!

There you go....

Your little spread ought to look a little similar to this when you are ready to indulge with this flick!

From yours truly- Sweet treats and remember sweet dreams!
